The Western Elmore County Recreation District's $3800 website has recently been updated. It no longer refers to holiday closures, reminds readers of the new location and announces the upcoming meeting this Wednesday, the 27th of January, at 7PM at their office.
Seems their website is updated once per month, and at $3841 per year for web maintenance, that's $320 per monthly update. Here is what is new:
Meeting Reminder
The regular January meeting of the WECRD Board of Directors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. New Location!
245 East 6th South, Mountain Home
That's 142 characters of typing, not including spaces. Since the update cost $320, that amounts to $2.25 per typed character. Good work, if you can find it.
Here's a suggestion: Scrap that website, and go to Blogger. It's free. And so simple, even a Western Elmore County Recreation District Director could use it. (well, maybe)

So Silence, you liked that update? Too bad the web person did not change all of the location info for the WECRD. If you go into 1 area on the web page it states they are still at their old location. I guess we only get what WE pay for. Sky is the limit when it is other people's money. Nobody capable of checking quality because the WECRD Board itself lacks quality.
ReplyDeleteThey need to bag the outdated web page and go to something that is free and will take public comment. Maybe then someone would answer questions. On second thought no. They would not respond. No rules and no regulations. My prayer group plans to ask to use their space for a meeting. I am sure they will turn us down but if the school could use it I should be able to as well right? How offensive could a prayer group be? We are not Mormon so maybe that would be offensive to the WECRD Board.
This entire thing, the WECRD, is really the joke of Elmore County. How could people have even voted for such a thing without their being a sound financial and development plan in place prior? Who votes for something that is nothing but a pipe dream?
It is very interesting that this Betty Ashcraft claims there will be no outside spaces at the facility. There is a waterway that runs directly through that entire property. The waterway in areas is more than 50 feet wide. At its smallest it is about 10-15 feet wide. Do they plan to build over this waterway and have a Frank Lloyd Wright design? Nope. I saw the design for the facility. So, do they only plan to use 1/2 of the property purchased? I can see it now. Jana will work a deal with a Mormon group and they will build a temple on the back half. I am sure she will give them a great deal for the land too (at taxpayer expense of course). Maybe they will even include a facility for the arts as well so that people do not have to use "recreation" space for the arts (which by definition really is against the law if you bother to read it).
This group is corrupt and thinks the public is too stupid to see what is going on. Poll of popular opinion would indicate big change on that board. Poor Mollie will stand alone and get outvoted on anything she wants to do. That is if we have an election. I got to sign that petition this weekend! A nice lady knoched on my door who was kind enough to have a binder of info with her on this debacle. Had I not seen it with my own 2 eyes I never would have believed it.
These people belong in jail not on a board. These people also should not be in charge of any public funds.
I have done a review of their financials myself. The audit does not match the WECRD's P & L. What does this mean? Well, somebody could have their hand in the cookie jar and nobody would ever know until it was too late. The audit company felt that as well because that fact is in the audit report itself.
For those who think the petition is going no place. Someone was at me house. Behind the sheet that I signed was at least 10 more pages that were filled. I was the last signature on the page I signed. Somebody has spent a lot of time on that. They have done the research and have the facts. It is more than I can say for the WECRD.
Why does that web page still say that the facility is designed and ready for construction?
ReplyDeleteI thought they were working with the Y on a plan that may not even include a building. This is what a lady from the Y said at a public meeting several months back. She said that ther might only be outdoor spaces or maybe even just a store front downtown where kids could go for programs.
The information that comes from the WECRD is either true and they will do what they want regardless or the Y is not very informed. It really confuses things. I hope the WECRD is not just wasteing money in consulting fees to go back to there own plan. That is what it sounds like. This CDLC is a group of volunteers. They donate all of there time. I think it is a waste. Mollie will do what Mollie wants to do. This consulting with the Y was just a way to stall the petition and seem like the WECRD cares what the public wants. They dont. They treat the public like toilet paper on the bottom of a shoe at the meetings. The WECRD wants public input about as much as Obama wants former President Bush in the White House with him. The WECRD could have listened to public comment and used that information. We did not need to spend $75 an hour (plus travel and expenses) to consult with the Y. They had free help with the ideas of the public. Some of those people work with parks & recreation and really know what they are talking about as far as how much things cost to run and take care of.
This is supposed to be something for the community but it is not. It is all about 3 people and what they think we want. Needs and what we want to pay to use are not part of this. I do not want to be indoors for all of my recreation. The WECRDs plans are clear. They are going to do what they want. Nobody can tell them different.
Can someone please bring a petition to get rid of this around to Stormy Mountain? We have not seen anybody up here yet but would like to sign. Weekends are best. You could also leave blank pages and I will get signatures for you.
ReplyDeleteOM/or does anyone have OM's email or info on how to reach her or that group?

Someone was up in the Legacy Park area a while ago. At the time I did not sign because I wanted to see where this Y thing went. The more time that passes the worse this gets.
ReplyDeleteI would like to sign and so will my wife. We also have friends on this block and in the area who would sign as well. I can direct you to their homes or arrange to have them at my house. Will you be in town at the park or back at the Kurly's lot soon? Please let us know where to come to sign or when you will be in this area. I know you are a small group and you can't be in two places at one time and have a life too. Your group has done a great job with the people you have and the resources you have available. Do not lose faith. You are doing a good public service regardless of what some say. The truth hurts for some.
If the WRECK can have WECRD "clings" (I got that from the web page) then I thin we should have "We Support OM" bumper stickers. You may not like what she says and how she says it but the facts are the facts and you can't change those.
Nice web site by the way. Can you put some of the finance stuff on here and expenses? I would also like to see the comments made by the audit company in that report.
Just a cop
We already know a number of people at the WECRD office are reading comments posted on the MH news site on the banter box and some of the blogs, they have even addressed people by their on line ID on the banter box at the board meetings. Now if we could get that bunch of, which I really don't have a good name for to ever listen to the public or answer questions that would really be something new. When you have a taxpayers district playing with the money they are and not having to answer to anyone and their book keeping and computer skill lack alot. Be interesting to see what comes out of tomorrows nites meeting over all these comments and other on blogs and the news site.
